Located to the left of the sanctuary, the chapel contains the tabernacle and a mosaic by John de Rosen, who was born in Poland of a father who was a court painter for the tsars of Russia. He was educated by the Jesuits and served in the armies of France, England and Poland during World War I. He worked on churches throughout Europe and the US, including the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The chapel was completed in 1970. The tabernacle doors contain the symbols of the four evangelists. It is inlaid with semi-precious stones, and designed by Rambusch of New York and rests on an altar of Bottacino marble designed by Donald Johnson. The background mosaic depicts the two disciples who met Christ following the crucifixion and recognized Him only when he broke bread. Christ then disappeared from their view, but He remained with them, present in the Eucharist. The murals of angels are by Vincent Aderente.

On the west wall are the coats of arms of the resident archbishops of Washington.
