All Souls’ Day Concert of Remembrance

We are honored to offer a special All Souls’ Day concert and prayer featuring the Schola Cantorum for our Cathedral friends and family who have died.

For the past two years, this remembrance concert has featured Requiems by Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Duruflé. This year’s concert will include meditations on David’s Penitential Psalm 130, which expresses both the depth of grief and a confident hope in God’s care. This De Profundis has been set by dozens of classical and contemporary composers for more than half a millennium. For our All Soul’s Day concert we will hear versions set by composers from the Renaissance through contemporary classical settings, including those of Palestrina, Fux, Lassus, Sweelinck, and Mendelssohn. We will also present a Magnificat by Arvo Pärt and motets of Thomas Tallis. There will be prayers and readings woven throughout the music to make this a true meditation and memorial.
