175th Anniversary Special Events

Friends, neighbors and visitors are welcome to attend the special events planned for our 175th Anniversary Year Celebration. In our 175th year we look now, as always, to the living stones of St. Matthew’s—our parishioners and clergy, friends and benefactors—and invite all to join us in celebration, and further anticipation, of our parish’s graced growth into a vibrant and diverse community alive in Christ.

Services for William Cardinal Baum, KGCHS, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington.

Requiescat in pace

Services for William Cardinal Baum, KGCHS, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington will be held at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle on Thursday and Friday, July 30 and 31. The services are open to the public; all are welcome to attend. Cardinal Baum served as a cardinal for 39 years, the longest such tenure in U. S. Church history. He died on July 23, at the age of 88.

Decree for Year of Mercy

On June 29, 2015, the Solemnity of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Apostles, Cardinal Donald Wuerl decreed that a Holy Door be opened at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, in accord with Misericordiae vultus, Pope Francis' Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy inaugurating a Holy Year of Mercy beginning on December 8, 2015.
