The 8th World Meeting of Families will take place in Philadelphia from Tuesday, September 22 to Sunday, September 27, 2015. The purpose is to gather Catholic famlies from around the world for days of prayer, catechesis, and celebration of the gift of family. The meeting, hosted by the Pontifical Council on the Family in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, consists of three events:
1) The Congress (registration required) will take place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center beginning on Tuesday afternoon with a keynote speaker and evening Mass; 2 keynote speakers and breakout sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, with daily Mass; a half-day on Friday, including Mass. "Love is our Mission: The Family Fully Alive." is the theme of the Congress.
2) The Festival of Families (open to the public) on Saturday will be an intercultural celebration of family life held on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
3) A Papal Mass is expected to take place on Sunday, September 27 at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and is open to the public; no tickets are required.
