We are honored to offer a special Remembrance Concert and prayer for our Cathedral friends and family who have died. In past years, this remembrance concert has featured Requiems by Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Duruflé. This year’s concert will include the well-loved Requiem of Herbert Howells. The Schola Cantorum will also present a meditation on death by Henry Purcell and a piece by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt,commissioned in commemoration of those killed in the Madrid train station bombings of 2002, entitled Da Pacem (Give Peace). Also included is a Psalm and folk song by another Estonian composer, Cyrillus Kreek. The program will also feature a work by Washington composer Thomas Howe, Remembered Music, that was premiered here at the Cathedral. The evening concludes with Lux Aeterna by Argentinine composer Fernando Moruja, whose O Bone Jesu was sung at the Midday Prayer with the Pope here in 2015.
There will be prayers and readings woven throughout the music to make this a true meditation and memorial. To have a deceased loved one remembered and included by name in the concert program, contact Tom Stehle, Pastoral Associate and Director of Music Ministries, by Friday, October 26 (firstname.lastname@example.org).
