Masses & Confessions - Ascension of the Lord Transferred to Sunday, June 2

In the Archdiocese of Washington and many other dioceses, the celebration of the Ascension of Our Lord is transferred from Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter to the following Sunday, the 43rd day after Easter, which this year is June 2. On the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord, the Church celebrates our Lord's bodily ascension to heaven 40 days after his resurrection from the dead on Easter Sunday.

On Thursday, May 30, the regular weekday schedule of Masses is observed. The Cathedral opens at 6:30am (7:30am during July and August) and closes at 6:30pm. Masses are celebrated at:

  • 7am (not celebrated from July 1 through and including August 30)
  • 8am
  • 12:10pm (Confessions from 11am to Noon unless otherwise noted)
  • 5:30pm

The St. Anthony Novena is prayed Tuesdays after the 5:30pm Mass.

The Miraculous Medal Novena is prayed Wednesdays after 5:30pm Mass.
