Cathedral Book Club

Join us Monday, November 19, from 6:45 to 8pm in the West Conference Room for a discussion of  "The Immortal Irishman: The Irish Revolutionary Who Became an American Hero," by National Book Award winner Timothy Egan.

This is the story of Thomas Meagher, whose exploits included escape to America from a prison colony in Tasmania, his leadership of the Irish Brigade in some of the fiercest battles of the Civil War, and his final years as territorial governor of Montana. It includes his opposition to the Know-Nothing Party, then the second largest party in the US, whose members pledged to support only American-born Protestants and never to marry a Catholic! Egan’s work has been praised for its “impeccable research, uncomplicated readability, and flowing narrative.”
