Fr. Jack Hurley speaks to us on Blessed Stanley Rother, who we honor today, July 28. He was a missionary for several years with the indigenous in Guatamala. He was murdered on this date in 1981, during the civil strife there. In 2016, he became the first native born US citizen to be declared a martyr and beatified. He was from Oklahoma, and studied at Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, making him a fellow alumnus of Fr. Choi and Fr. Hurley! The chapel there is now dedicated to him as a shrine.
