Discussion will be Thursday, December 11, 7–8:15 pm, in the West Conference Room.
After our exchange on Augustine, we now turn to a presentation on Saint John Henry Newman, slated to be proclaimed by Pope Leo as the next Doctor of the Church this coming November 1!

JOHN HENRY NEWMAN: A LIFE SACRIFICED, by Ida Friederike Gorres, is a book described as an "unparalleled introduction" to the Saint. The author herself was described by then Father Joseph Ratzinger in his 1971 eulogy as one who "spoke with an insightful certainty and a fearlessness about the pressing questions and tasks of the Church today".
There is also an in-depth introduction by Ratzinger Prize winner Gerl-Falkovitz, and an explanatory commentary by Jennifer Bryson, translator from the German, in this description of a saint whose life was one of risk, sacrifice, and brilliant writing.
