Mass for the Investiture with the Sacred Pallium

On Sunday, July 14, join us in the Cathedral at 11:30am as our new archbishop, the Most Rev. Wilton Gregory, celebrates a Mass for the Investiture with the Sacred Pallium. During the Mass Archbishop Gregory will receive, as a sign of his authority as a metropolitan archbishop, the sacred pallium conferred by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, who will be the homilist.

The Cathedral's Schola Cantorum will provide music for this special archdiocesan liturgy. Among the liturgical music selections, the choir will sing Sicut Cervus by G.P. da Palestrina, Notre Père,by Maurice Duruflé, and Meditabor in Mandatis, also by Palestrina. The music for communion will include the Gregorian chant Passer invenit, and a hymn, Not By Bread Alone,by Roger Holland.

Be with us as we pray for our Church of Washington entrusted to Archbishop Gregory's care, and that the pallium be "a symbol of unity and a sign of [his] communion with the Apostolic See, a bond of love, and an incentive to courage."

See below the Schola's rehearsal of Meditabor in Mandatis,to be sung at the Preparation of the Gifts during this special liturgy. (You may also have heard this piece performed during Masses on the Second Sunday of Lent 2019.)
