Concert of Remembrance

We are honored to offer as part of our Great Organ Inaugural Concert Series a special 2019 Remembrance Concert and prayer for our Cathedral friends and family who have died.

Featured Works

In past years, this remembrance concert has featured Requiems by Gabriel Fauré and Herbert Howells. In this year in which we are debuting the newly completed Great Organ, the concert will feature the well-loved Requiem of Maurice Duruflé  accompanied in much the same way and on the type of organ Duruflé  himself would have been accustomed. The Schola Cantorum will also present a meditation on death by the late John Tavener and a setting of a Percy Bysshe Shelley poem by Swiss composer Ivo Antognini. Also included is a setting of  Psalm 130 by Felix Mendelssohn.

Arranging a Remembrance

There will be prayers and readings woven throughout the music to make this a true meditation and memorial. You are invited to have a deceased loved one remembered and included by name in the printed concert program. To do so, please contact Tom Stehle, Pastoral Associate and Director of Music Ministries, by Noon on Tuesday, October 29 (tstehle@stmatthewscathedral.org). You may make an online memorial donation by clicking here (and scrolling down once redirected) or contacting Tom.
