Feast of the Presentation and Blessing of Candles & Blessing of Throat on the Memorial of St. Blaise
January 30, 2026Feast of the Presentation of the Lord & Blessing of Candles
Monday, February 2, is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, a joyful event told in the second chapter of the Gospel of Luke. “Led by the Spirit, Simeon and Anna came to the temple, recognized Christ as their Lord, and proclaimed him with joy.”
At all Masses, candles will be blessed with words that remind us that Jesus’ presentation fulfilled the law of Moses and at the same time signified his going out to meet his faithful people. You are welcome to bring your own candles to Mass to be blessed.
Blessing of Throat on the Memorial of St. Blaise
On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the Memorial of St. Blaise, a blessing of throats will be conferred at all Masses.
The custom began in the 16th century, although Blaise lived in the fourth century. He was the bishop of Sebaste in Armenia who, according to legend, saved the life of a boy who was choking on a fish bone. He is now the patron saint of all who have diseases of the throat. Join us and receive a blessing of your throat as a sign of God’s care for his people.
