Cathedral Book Club: A Novel about St. Thomas Aquinas

The Cathedral Book Club meets on Thursday, April 27 in the West Conference Room, 7 - 8pm, to discuss "The Quiet Light: A Novel about Saint Thomas Aquinas," by Louis de Wohl.

Saint Thomas will be recognized in the coming years for anniversaries of his birth, death, and canonization. Continually, of course, he is recognized for his impressive theology, philosophy, and spiritual writings. De Wohl's historical novel presents a unique back-grounder of the Angelic Doctor, and comes recommended by fellow Dominican, Father Philip Nolan, O.P., a regular Mass celebrant at the Cathedral.

Fr. Jack Hurley writes, "This is a novel for a change. So far in my reading I can recognize, spelled out, a description of the book whereby 'The battles and Crusades of the 13th century and the ruthlessness of the excommunicated Emperor Frederick II play a big part in the story, but it is Thomas of Aquino who dominates this book. De Wohl succeeds notably in portraying the exceptional quality of this man, a fusion of mighty intellect and childlike simplicity.'"
