The Cathedral Office of Music Ministries is pleased once again to give our parishioners and the greater Washington, DC community the opportunity to hear marvelous music in a concert setting. Join us for a Wednesday midday recital by Andy Brown, free and open to the public, and livestreamed on the Cathedral YouTube channel.

First place winner of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition for Young Organists/Quimby Competition, Andy Brown will present a 40-minute concert in our recital series celebrating the second anniversary of the completion Lively-Fulcher Great Organ on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 12:40pm, following the 12:10pm Mass. We are so pleased to give our parishioners and the greater Washington, DC community the opportunity to hear marvelous music in an ideal recital setting.

Featured works include Allegro from Symphony No. 6 by Charles Marie Widor, Prelude and Fugue in A minor by J. S. Bach, Litanies by Jehan Alain, "Silence may be kept" and "The peace may be exchanged" from Rubrics by Dan Locklair, and Carillon de Westminster by Louis Vierne.

This concert will be both open to the public, with social distancing and CDC guidelines observed, as well as livestreamed on our YouTube channel. Seating areas will be roped off and  face masks will be required to enter the Cathedral. 

About the Artist

Currently in the Washington DC metro area, Andy Brown is an organ student studying with Chuyoung Suter at the Washington National Cathedral. He is a member of the Washington DC chapter of the American Guild of Organists and frequently plays organ in churches in the area. Andy was first place winner in the Potomac/Northern Virginia/Winchester sponsored American Guild of Organists Regional Competition for Young Organists (RCYO)/Quimby Competition, and then first place winner in the Mid-Atlantic Regional RCYO/Quimby Competition. He is a graduating senior at DeMatha Catholic High School where he studies music theory and is a trombone scholar studying with David Sciannella. Andy will be attending Baylor University this Fall, studying with Dr. Isabelle Demers for a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance.
