Prayer Vigil for Freedom

A candlelight vigil organized by the Knights of Columbus will be held outside the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, June 22 in unison with the U.S. Catholic bishops’ Fortnight for Freedom initiative. The event is designed to draw attention to the threats against the First Amendment rights to religious liberty. Download the flyer.

The event, will take place on the northeast side of the Capitol grounds, near the corner of Constitution Avenue and First Street N.E., at 8:45pm. It will be preceded by a 7pm Mass at St. Joseph’s Church on Capitol Hill (corner of Second and C Streets N.E.).

The “Prayer Vigil for Freedom” marks the feast of Sts. John Fisher and Thomas More, martyrs of the English Reformation (16th century) who died in defense of religious freedom. It will include the recitation of the Rosary and Compline (night prayer), sung by the Dominican House of Studies schola.

A reception will follow at 10pm with live music by Marie Miller.

Participants are asked to foster a spirit of prayer and peaceful demonstration, refraining from the use of signs or banners.
