A Special Connection to Recall on this Independence Day Weekend

A treasure chest full of St. Matthew's memories was collected during our 175th Anniversary Year, in 2015. We share during this Independence Day weekend of 2019 a memory from a parishioner who descended from Msgr. Thomas Sim Lee, the builder and first pastor of St. Matthew's Church on Rhode Island Avenue. Note also  the special relationship, through Msgr. Lee, between St. Matthew's and the only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence!

Monday Morning Sidewalk Ministry

Beginning March 16, the Monday after St. Matthew's Parish facilities closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, St. Matthew’s Homeless ministry staff led by Norma Canedo and Fr. John Benson, and many generous volunteers, have been serving up to 60 lunches to our guests at a morning sidewalk session. Thanks to our committed volunteers!
